PokéSurvivor Held Items

Last updated:

PokéSurvivor has 11 held items. Here is what each one does, in our own words from the game’s item data, and which ones players recommend, use only in some builds or avoid, with the number of sources behind each verdict. We don’t give them S/A/B scores: with one or two sources per item, that would be guesswork.

Last verified: · Game version: 5bbc3b2. Verdicts are player opinions from videos and posts on X, not tested results. Reddit and Discord aren’t covered yet.

How held items work

  • You carry one held item per run.
  • Held items come from chests, sometimes ordinary ones but often locked ones, and bosses drop them too.
  • When you find another, you choose which one to keep.
  • The item you keep lasts for the whole run.

All 11 held items

The effects are from the game’s item data, which is the same at game versions c31715d and 5bbc3b2.

Player picks: which item when

Grouped by when players reach for each item. Seven of the eight verdicts cite at least one of two videos by the same Spanish creator, so read them as a few players’ experience rather than a consensus.

Early game

  • Lucky Egg (players recommend; 2 sources, moderate): Two build threads on X take it early in a run, for faster level-ups.

Damage builds

  • Choice Band (players recommend; 2 sources, moderate): A build thread on X carries it for damage in the mid and late game, and a Spanish creator calls it the first choice as long as you don’t need to switch moves.
  • Quick Claw (players recommend; single source): A Spanish creator calls it key when you rotate several damage moves, and ranks it above Choice Band for that.

Long runs and Arceus

At minute 30 the Judgment of Arceus begins: an invincible Arceus chases you, faster and faster, as stronger legendaries join.

  • Choice Scarf (players recommend; 2 sources, moderate): A Spanish creator recommends its speed for long runs, and a build thread on X uses it to outrun the Judgment of Arceus.
  • Assault Vest (players recommend; single source): A Spanish creator recommends it next to Choice Scarf for long runs.

Sustain

  • Shell Bell (situational; 2 sources, moderate): A Spanish creator pairs it with Tentacruel’s poison damage over time, and in another video calls it fine but not the best; both views come from that one creator.
  • Leftovers (situational; single source): A Spanish creator finds it useful only if you’re fast enough to rarely get hit.

Avoid

  • Life Orb (players avoid; 2 sources, moderate): A Spanish creator would rather restart a run than begin it holding Life Orb, and a GitHub issue asks for it to be removed (the issue has a title and no text).

Focus Sash, Amulet Coin and Rocky Helmet: none of our sources gives a view on these yet.

Best paired with

Only three pairings have a source so far:

  • Choice Band + Mewtwo: Used in 2 Mewtwo build runs; one creator recommends it outright.
  • Choice Scarf + Agility: A build thread on X (a shiny Empoleon build) pairs them in a speed setup for surviving the Judgment of Arceus.
  • Shell Bell + Tentacruel: A Spanish creator’s pick: Tentacruel’s poison keeps damaging enemies over time, and Shell Bell turns that damage into healing.

FAQ

What is the best held item in PokéSurvivor?

There’s no single answer: it depends on the run and the build. Players recommend Lucky Egg early in a run, Choice Band for damage if you don’t need to switch moves, Quick Claw when you rotate several damage moves, and Choice Scarf or Assault Vest for long runs. Each pick rests on one or two sources: player views, not tested results.

Can you carry more than one held item?

No. You carry one held item per run. When you find another, you choose which one to keep, and the one you keep lasts for the rest of the run.

Is Life Orb bad?

Players think so. It raises your damage, but every attack costs you a little HP. A Spanish creator would rather restart a run than begin it holding Life Orb, and a GitHub issue asks for it to be removed. That’s two sources, not a tested result.
