The most common Mewtwo build in PokéSurvivor puts Confusion, Psychic, Swords Dance and Harden into a single Bond, then locks it in with Choice Band. Every Mewtwo build we checked runs Swords Dance and Harden; they disagree on the held item and on how much defense to take. Below is the build, the numbers behind it, and where the sources split.11,12,13,15,19

Why players call Mewtwo the strongest
4 sources · consensus: moderate
Mewtwo is the Pokémon players bring up most when they ask what’s best. One player called it almost unkillable 20 minutes into a run16; another joked that within a day of launch players had already “solved” the game with Mewtwo17; a Spanish guide thread names it the best pick if it is fully upgraded15. A Chinese video’s title calls it super strong13, and an English build guide’s title calls its Mewtwo build broken11. One 30-minute run by linzenieur reached the Arceus phase with this build11.
The in-game numbers explain part of it. Mewtwo has the 6th-highest attack multiplier and the 17th-highest speed of all 966 Pokémon, and both of its best attacks home in on enemies.1,2
Note: psychic moves were toned down on Oct 11, 2026 (roughly 22–30% less damage and weaker homing), because they were crowding the leaderboard. Every claim on this page links to its source, and game numbers were checked against the game’s public source code (last verified Oct 17, 2026).2,7
Recommended Mewtwo build
Moves
| Move | Slot | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Confusion | Attack | Your starting move. Homing shots that rarely miss; take it to level 5 first.2,11,13 |
| Psychic | Attack | A ring of 12 homing projectiles that covers every side of Mewtwo.2,11,15 |
| Swords Dance | Buff | No damage. Stacks attack; at level 5 it reaches 7 stacks and about 2.78× attack.2,11 |
| Harden | Buff | No damage. Stacks damage reduction; at level 5, six stacks already hit the 80% cap.2,5,11 |
Why only these two buffs: once you have two buff moves, the level-up cards stop offering more, so Swords Dance plus Harden uses up both buff spots.4
One creator (linzenieur) skips Quick Attack because its automatic dash moves you in ways you can’t control.11
Move evolutions
A move evolves when it reaches level 5 and you have taken its matching stat card at least once in that run.2,4
- Confusion → Psyshock (needs a Reflexes card)
- Psychic → Expanding Force (needs a Magnet card)
- Psybeam → Future Sight (needs a Power card)
- Psycho Cut → Psychic Fangs (needs a Reflexes card)
Swords Dance and Harden do not evolve.2
Held item
Most sources pick Choice Band: +40% damage, but you can’t switch slots. That’s fine here because every move inside your Bond keeps firing. Select your main Bond before you equip it, or you’ll be stuck on the wrong slot.3,5,11,12,13
Alternatives the sources mention:
- Shell Bell — heals you for 4% of the damage you deal (up to 4 HP per second). One creator likes it because Mewtwo attacks so often.3,5,13
- Leftovers — 1.5% max HP per second. Suggested in one wiki’s build planner; it doesn’t report a tested run.3,19
- Avoid Life Orb: one creator says it’s bad enough to restart a run over.14
Bonds
You get one Bond for each legendary you beat in a rift. A Bond fuses moves into one slot so they all fire at once, up to 4 moves. Putting all four moves together takes 3 fusions.5,8,11
Rifts stop opening at minute 28, so finish your fusions before then. If a rift doesn’t open, the next one gets more likely; you’ll never wait more than about 2.5 minutes.7,8,11
Level-up cards: what to take
- Early on, push Confusion to level 5. One creator simply restarts if it doesn’t max quickly.11
- After that, damage (Power) and cooldown (Reflexes) carry the build. Power gives +10% per card (up to 40 cards); Reflexes cuts cooldowns by 8% per card (up to 10), and the cuts multiply, so 10 cards leave about 43% of the original delay.4,11
- Movement speed: +7% per card, up to 8.4,11
- Health (+20 max HP each) and Synthesis (+0.9 HP/s each) have no card limit.4,11
- Stop taking Armor once Harden holds the 80% cap. Extra defense does nothing past that point.5,11
- Grab XP early; one guide says if the XP passive is farmed before minute 6, you can switch to taking only passives.15
Shop upgrades
Upgrades are bought per Pokémon6. A fully upgraded Mewtwo makes the build far easier; one creator admits runs were hard until they maxed it11. They rate Vitality, Strength, Stride, Reflexes, Critical Hit and Wisdom as the most important11. Another maxed attack, cooldown and speed but not health, and found the late game very punishing13.
How to play the build
- Keep moving. One creator died almost the moment they stopped13. Speed lets you reach buff statues and rifts15.
- Don’t circle back over cleared ground; one player found they kept getting stuck and ran out of grass to eat13.
- Watch the water. Mewtwo slows down on water in one creator’s run13.
- Spread out crowds. When shield and healer enemies bunch up, run far away; they come back scattered and are easier to kill15.
- The ×7 icons are stack counters, not a 7× multiplier11.
The Arceus phase (minute 30)
At minute 30 Arceus arrives. It can’t be defeated, and touching it removes 40% of your max HP; that damage ignores defense, so Harden won’t help. Every 5 seconds another legendary joins with double the HP and damage of the last one; Harden does work against those. More max HP doesn’t buy extra touches, because the hit scales with it. Your goal is to dodge for as long as you can. The best English run we found lasted 41 seconds and defeated 3 legendaries.7,9,11
What sources disagree on
| Question | What we found |
|---|---|
| Held item | Choice Band (3 videos from 2 creators) vs Shell Bell (1 creator’s first run) vs Leftovers (1 wiki planner, untested)11,12,13,19 |
| Second attack | Psychic11,13,15 vs Psybeam19 |
| Defense cards | Skip them once Harden caps (fully upgraded Mewtwo)11 vs keep stacking defense and healing (not fully upgraded)13 |
| Are Bonds good design? | One creator calls fusing into one build “the only way through” and wishes there were more options13 |
Best paired with
| Pairing | Why |
|---|---|
| Swords Dance | Mewtwo’s high attack multiplier gets the most out of attack stacks; ~2.78× at full stacks1,2,11 |
| Harden | Reaches the 80% damage-reduction cap on its own, so you don’t need Armor cards2,5,11 |
| Choice Band | +40% damage on top of Swords Dance, about 3.9× combined once fully stacked; no downside once all four moves share one Bond3,11 |
Don’t have Mewtwo? If your Mewtwo isn’t fully upgraded, Jirachi or Metagross are better options; both are Steel/Psychic and can run a Meteor Mash or Metal Claw + Psychic + Swords Dance + Harden setup.1,15
FAQ
How do I get Mewtwo in PokéSurvivor?
Pull the Kanto banner. It’s one of six 5-star Pokémon there, about 0.25% per pull before the 70-pull 5-star pity.
What is Mewtwo’s best item?
Choice Band: three build videos from two creators use it. Shell Bell is the main alternative.
Does Harden protect against Arceus?
No. Arceus’s contact damage is 40% of max HP and ignores defense.
